TAMPA – Representative James W. Grant (R- Tampa) was recognized by the Florida Chamber of Commerce for his commitment to strengthening Florida’s business community and creating jobs. In their annual Legislative Report Card, Representative Grant earned the grade of “A” with a voting record that was pro-business 100% of the time. In addition, Representative Grant received a 96% rating for voting pro-business, according to Associated Industries of Florida’s annual “Voting Records & Champions for Business” Report.

“In our current economic climate it is imperative that we give our business community the tools and freedom to be successful” Representative Grant said. “I made a commitment to the people of District 47 and Florida to do everything I could to get our economy back on track, and that means smarter policies that get rid of needless regulation. This will result in growth that is dictated by the market, not the government.”

The Florida Chamber’s Legislative Report Card is a tool that grades legislators on their support of pro-job, pro-business issues based on their votes during the legislative session. The issues used to calculate the grades are outlined in the Florida Chamber’s 2011 Florida Business Agenda.  Associated Industries of Florida’s “Voting Records & Champions for Business” Report is compiled using votes cast as reported in official state records. Each vote cast is measured equally.

Lawyer James Grant brings eloquent enthusiasm and the potential for leadership reminiscent of another young Republican politician, Adam Putnam.

The most impressive candidate is James Grant. Although he will be only 28 on Election Day, Grant has wasted no time learning about state issues. No doubt his father, former legislator John Grant, has been a mentor.

The younger Grant promises he will “break from party to do what I believe is right.”

On the controversial issue of Senate Bill 6, which Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed, James Grant says he agrees with the concept of merit pay but thinks the bill gave too much weight to test scores.

An outdoorsman with the endorsement of the NRA, Grant has firm ideas about how to deal with many of the problems facing Florida, including the need to build an economy with less dependence on population growth. But he is one of the few candidates to emphasize flexibility, saying, “I’m going to listen.”

Grant advocates a waiting period before passing a state budget, to give the public a chance to see it and make comments.

Because he would immediately strengthen the Tampa area delegation while providing solid representation for the district, the Tribune recommends James Grant in District 47.

In response to the NRA endorsement and A+ rating, James Grant said, “To have the endorsement of two groups who wholeheartedly believe in the Constitution is tremendously humbling. This endorsement is not just about the right to bear arms. It is about an absolute belief in God-given and Constitutionally protected freedoms. I ultimately decided to get in this race because I believe that we are living in some of the most politically defining times in our State and Nation’s history. Whether we continue down the path of government expansion at the sake of individual liberties or return to the principles that made us the freest and most prosperous land on earth is entirely up to us. To ensure that District 47 is represented by somebody willing to defend the Constitution, we need your continued support.”

The NRA’s endorsement adds to the momentum that continues to build for our campaign. In recent weeks, we have been endorsed by the Florida Right to Life PAC, Police Benevolent Association, Tampa Bay Builders Association, and former opponent Rich Reidy, among others.

NRA Endorses James Grant for State Representative

The WCPBA’s endorsement adds to the momentum that has been building for our campaign. In recent weeks, we have been endorsed by our former opponent Rich Reidy, qualified for the ballot by collecting over 1,300 petitions, won the only two straw polls to date, and in our first fundraising quarter outraised all other opponents in the race.

The endorsement of the Police Benevolent Association is a tremendous honor. I am incredibly humbled to have the support of the organization advocating on behalf of the men and women protecting our way of life and preserving our liberties .

Speaking about his endorsement, Reidy said, “I believe that District 47 will be well-served by James Grant. He is bright, educated and eager to serve. I think he’ll be an able guardian of the taxpayer dollar and the tenets of less government and less spending. At the same time, he’ll bring new and fresh ideas to Tallahassee.”
